I am

I am

fear incarnate,

meek with enormous eyes.

I don’t mean to run,

don’t want to hurt you,

don’t mean to cower in

corners and whisper

doubts. I want to

grab you and

have the strength

to never let go,

a bear trap

big enough to clamp

your abdomen,

staple it together.

I am becoming

giant squid,

suckers suture

you on to me.

But, maybe no,

I’ll wrap my arms,

freckled and pale,

around you and let you

feel safety for a change.

Let your weary bones

be held by mine.
